Damascus Airport

Damascus International Airport has officially reopened

After nearly 14 years of the Syrian revolution, the new government officially opened Damascus International Airport for international navigation.
During these years, Damascus International Airport suffered from neglect by the Assad regime, and flights were minimal due to Western sanctions on this criminal regime.

International flights resumed at Syria’s main airport in Damascus on Tuesday, Jan 7 for the first time, at approximately 11:45 AM, a Syrian Airlines flight bound for Sharjah departed, marking the first international commercial flight from Damascus International Airport since December 8, the aircraft proudly displayed Syria’s three-star independence flag, a symbol historically linked to opposition to the Assad regime and now embraced by the new government. Destinations were restricted to a handful of countries, including Iraq, the UAE, Egypt, Russia, and Iran.

International tourism is slowly returning to Syria

Since 2019, Syria has emerged as a destination for adventure tourism and for travelers seeking a deeper understanding of conflict and its impact. This trend is expected to continue for at least the next five years, as the country faces significant challenges in rebuilding its infrastructure and achieving political stability—both essential for large-scale reconstruction efforts, Following the fall of the Assad regime, a significant number of journalists and media professionals traveled to Syria to document this historic moment, while many Syrians living abroad returned to celebrate the country’s new chapter. With the security situation steadily improving and interprovincial roads being secured, Syria is on the path to revival. Tourist trips to the country are starting, with plans already underway for the upcoming spring season.
