Syria Introduces Visa on Arrival

It has become easy to obtain a Syrian visa without any hassle or prior requests.

Syria Visa on Arrival VOA

The Syrian Transitional Government has eliminated visa requirements for most visitors, requiring only a passport for entry. However, there are exceptions: Israeli citizens are prohibited from entering or transiting through Syria, Iranian citizens must secure prior authorization, and Lebanese citizens without a valid residence permit in another country or a Syrian family member must obtain a prior visa.

Currently, there is no visa fee; however, this is expected to change soon as the new government is in the process of establishing a payment system.

The new authorities do not stamp your passport directly. Instead, they issue a separate piece of paper with your personal details and place the stamp on it. However, if you’re a stamp collector, you can request to have your passport stamped as a souvenir.

Syria Visa for Journalists

For journalists, the process is slightly different. They must submit a prior request, including their personal details and information about their fixer, by filling out a designated form. A response is typically provided within two to three days. Upon arrival at the Syrian border, journalists receive a visa based on their submitted request. They then visit the Ministry of Information to obtain a special filming permit, ensuring a smooth and flexible process.
