Syria Visa Guide

Syria Visa Guide 2026: Requirements, Visa on Arrival & Fees

Syria Visa on Arrival

The Syrian government grants a visa on arrival to most nationalities, with a few exceptions based on political, security, and economic considerations. These restricted nationalities require a pre-approval visa.

Visa fees must be paid in cash (USD or EUR) upon arrival, whether you enter Syria through a land border or an international airport.

The current authorities typically stamp visas directly into passports; however, travelers may request the visa stamp to be placed on a separate piece of paper instead.

Important Note: If your passport contains any stamps from border crossings between Israel and Egypt or Jordan, you will not be eligible to obtain a Syrian visa.

Important Travel Notice

If you plan to travel to Syria via Damascus or Aleppo International Airports, please note that some airlines operating flights to Syria do not have updated information regarding Syrian visa regulations. As a result, they may require passengers to obtain a visa in advance, even if they are eligible for a visa on arrival.
In such cases, we recommend asking the airline to contact the Syrian authorities to verify the latest visa requirements. Alternatively, if you are booking a tour with a licensed travel agency, you can obtain an advance visa through your travel agent, who will provide the necessary confirmation documents.
Airlines known to sometimes lack updated visa information include Flydubai and Jet Airways.

Hidden fees you need to pay when you enter Lebanon from Syria

If you exit Syria to Lebanon by land—regardless of how you originally entered Syria—you are required to pay a Lebanese entry stamp duty of 1,000,000 LBP (approximately USD 12).
The fee can be paid in any currency, as stamp vendors are available near the immigration office on the Lebanese side of the border. The process is simple and straightforward.

Syria Visa for Journalists

For journalists, the process is slightly different. They must submit a prior request, including their personal details and information about their fixer, by filling out a designated form. A response is typically provided within two to three days. Journalists receive a visa upon arrival at the Syrian border based on their submitted request. They then visit the Ministry of Media to obtain a special filming permit, ensuring a smooth and flexible process.
