Official Holidays in Syria Announced

    The Syrian Arab Republic has officially updated its list of recognized public holidays, as per Presidential Decree No. 188 for the year 2025.
    The updated list reflects Syria’s unique mix of national and religious celebrations, honoring the country’s cultural diversity and its historic milestones.
    These official holidays in Syria apply to all state employees.

    The following holidays are recognized as official days off:

    National Holidays (chronological):

    • January 1New Year’s Day – 1 day
    • March 18Syrian Revolution Day – 1 day
    • March 21Mother’s Day – 1 day
    • April 17Independence Day (Evacuation Day) – 1 day
    • May 1Labour Day (International Workers’ Day) – 1 day
    • December 8Liberation of Syria Day – 1 day
    • December 25Christmas – 1 day

    Religious Holidays (dates vary each year):

    • Eid al-Fitr – 3 days
    • Eid al-Adha – 4 days
    • Islamic (Hijri) New Year’s Day – 1 day
    • Mawlid al-Nabawi (Prophet’s Birthday) – 1 day
    • Easter (Eastern Churches) – 1 day
    • Easter (Western Churches) – 1 day
      Dates of religious holidays shift each year, depending on the Islamic or Christian calendars.

    This comprehensive calendar combines Islamic, Christian, and national events, highlighting Syria’s long-standing traditions and its shared sense of identity. The recognition reflects inclusivity and respect for all communities.

    On the occasion of Liberation Day, Syria commemorates its independence from the oppressive Assad regime.
